چکیده

We have collected and analyzed data taken in different spectral bands (from X-ray to optical and infrared) of the field of GRB 031220 and we present results of such multiband observations. Comparison between images taken at different epochs in the same filters did not reveal any strong variable source in the field of this burst. X-ray analysis shows that only two of the seven Chandra sources have a significant flux decrease and seem to be the most likely afterglow candidates. Both sources do not show the typical values of the R − K colour but they appear to be redder. However, only one source has an X-ray decay index (1.3 ± 0.1) that is typical for observed afterglows. We assume that this source is the best afterglow candidate and we estimate a redshift of 1.90 ± 0.30. Photometric analysis and redshift estimation for this object suggest that this GRB can be classified as a Dark Burst and that the obscuration is the result of dust extinction in the circum burst medium or inside the host galaxy.

Search for GeV-TeV emission from GRB 080319B using the Milagro Observatory

On March 19, 2008 NASA’s Swift satellite discovered one of the brightest gamma-ray bursts ever recorded. With a peak visual magnitude of 5.3, GRB 080319B was dubbed the “naked-eye” gammaray burst, as an observer under dark skies could have seen the burst without the aid of an instrument. Due to the proximity in both time and space to GRB 080319A, prompt emission from GRB 080319B was detected in...

We identify the fading X-ray afterglow of GRB 001025A from XMM-Newton observations obtained 1.9–2.3 days, 2 years, and 2.5 years after the burst. The non-detection of an optical counterpart to an upper limit of R = 25.5, 1.20 days after the burst, makes GRB 001025A a " dark " burst. Based on the X-ray af-terglow spectral properties of GRB 001025A, we argue that some bursts appear – 2 – opticall...

Gamma-Ray Burst Early Afterglows

The successful launch and operation of NASA’s Swift Gamma-Ray Burst Explorer open a new era for the multi-wavelength study of the very early afterglow phase of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). GRB early afterglow information is essential to explore the unknown physical composition of GRB jets, the link between the prompt γ-ray emission and the afterglow emission, the GRB central engine activity, as wel...

Properties of Relativistic Jets in Eight Gamma-ray Burst Afterglows

We extend our calculation of physical parameters of GRB afterglows through modelling of their broadband emission to three other cases: 980519, 000926, and 010222. Together with 990123, 990510, 991208, 991216, and 000301c, there are eight afterglows whose optical and radio emission allow determination of the burst collimation. The jet energies (after the GRB phase) obtained for this sample of ei...

Gamma-Ray Burst Afterglows

Extended, fading emissions in multi-wavelength are observed following Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). Recent broadband observational campaigns led by the Swift Observatory reveal rich features of these GRB afterglows. Here we review the latest observational progress and discuss the theoretical implications for understanding the central engine, composition, and geometric configuration of GRB jets, as w...
